Orléans
With around 18.500 students including almost 3.000 international students, the 110-hectare campus located in the South of Orléans offers students, a green and pleasant environment.
The University's capacity for innovation is reflected in the dynamism of its research and technology transfers to regional, national and international companies. The Orléans Campus benefits from an ecosystem of scientific excellence with 25 research units.
The University of Orléans has a well-recognized expertise in insect sciences with two research teams dedicated to insect-related area at the laboratory Physiology, Ecology, Environment (P2E). P2E is a laboratory of the University of Orléans, affiliated to the National research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environement (INRAE). The platform « Canaux-Cell » (dedicated to electrophysiology and cellular imaging) is accessible for specific courses and research projects.
The team « Neurobiology and Neuropharmacology of Ion Channels » has extensive experience in the study of insect channel receptors, that are involved in learning and memory processes and are the target of neurotoxic pesticides. Different approaches (electrophysiology, molecular biology, molecular modelisation, toxicology…) are used to characterize these receptors, their regulation and involvement in physiological processes. The aim of the team is also to understand the mechanisms of resistance to pesticides and to identify more effective and selective compounds.
The Team “Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution of Entomological Fauna” has extensive experience in evolutionary biology studies of forest entomofauna in the context of biological invasions: taxonomy and molecular phylogeny, genetic structure of invasive xylophagous insects or vectors of invasive pathogens. The aim of the team is to characterize ecological and evolutionary mechanisms underlying population dynamic and genetic of insects in the context of global change.
